Florida leads
the nation with 17 percent of our population 65 years and
older. As the
number of residents continues to grow, Florida
will remain number 1 with 27.1 percent of our population
projected to be 65+ in 2030, compared to 19.7 percent for the
rest of the nation (U.S. Census Bureau).
Florida is also
leading the nation in preparations for these changes with
implementation of programs and resources such as this
website. Safe and Mobile Seniors is a
virtual "one stop shop" for transportation safety and
mobility information for drivers and pedestrians 65 years and
older living in Florida. Developed through the
Florida Department of
Transportation's (FDOT) aging road user program "Safe Mobility
for Life",
this site provides Floridians easy access to information and resources in an effort to improve the
safety, access and mobility of our growing aging
population.
Bookmark this
site and use it as a reference to stay connected to the latest
transportation safety and mobility resources and information.
FDOT has made a commitment to keep the information on this website current and easily accessible while also providing a
location where agencies and organizations can provide updates
on their own transportation related programs and activities
aimed at seniors. To assist in this effort, the site is
frequently
updated with new
features and/or information posted below.
